  • 75% of PG-13 movies have tobacco use
  • 36% of G and PG movies have tobacco use

What Effect Does Smoking in the Movies Have on Youth?

  • Research shows that the more youth view smoking in movies, the more likely they are to start smoking.
  • Images of smoking in films show healthy, attractive people smoking.  This sends a message to the youth viewer that smokers can be attractive and healthy.  In reality, tobacco use is the #1 cause of preventable death in the U.S.
